Parent Handbook
Attendance and Tardies

All children are expected to be in attendance each day, unless they are ill or a family emergency arises. Please report your South Prairie student’s absence at 503-842-8401 or Liberty student’s absence at 503-842-7501. Please remember that a written note explaining the absence is required after a student has been absent and a note from the doctor may be required.
Your child will be marked “tardy” after 8:15 a.m. at Liberty (9:15 a.m. on Mondays) and 8:00 a.m. at South Prairie (9:00 a.m. on Mondays). It is very important that your child learn the responsibility of promptness. Parents will be notified by the principal if absences or tardies become a problem.
Examples of excessive absences are as follows:
Prearranged absences: Any time your child is not ill and you know in advance that your child will not be present; he/she must pick up a prearranged absence form from the office for you to fill out and return. This form needs to be signed by all teachers involved, and then approved by the principal. Again, your child is responsible for all make‑up school work.
If your child has been absent due to a communicable disease, the school requires clearance from a doctor or the health department in order for him or her to return to school. (OAR 333‑19‑015)
